JACK LONDON
Before his lecture
in Chicago
Mother Jones
kissed him
on both cheeks
*

a cannibal sandwich
*

from scurvy

“To Build a Fire”
was written in Hawaii
where he learned to surf
like a skin-peeled Mercury
